Alleged drug dealer arrested in Brattleboro

A 43-year-old man from the Hartford, Connecticut area, Tremaine "Brody" Knight III, has been jailed on federal drug charges related to the distribution of fentanyl and cocaine in the Brattleboro area. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Vermont Drug Task Force in U.S. District Court, Knight is accused of being involved in several controlled drug sales to a confidential informant.
The allegations include a specific incident on March 11 at Domino's Pizza in the Market 32 Shopping Center, where Knight reportedly distributed both cocaine and fentanyl. Following the transaction, the informant provided the task force with approximately 5 ounces of cocaine and around 1.5 ounces of fentanyl, along with details of the cash exchange, which totaled $7,630, including $1,630 owed from a previous sale.
Knight has an extensive criminal history with eight felony convictions, five of which are related to drug sales, and one for felony possession in Connecticut. He previously served a five-year federal prison sentence for possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. In 2010, he was arrested in Hartford for possessing a handgun and heroin, leading to his conviction and subsequent supervised release.
After his arrest on Wednesday in Brattleboro, Knight appeared in federal court for an initial hearing to address the charges against him. Assistant U.S. Attorney Corinne M. Smith requested a three-day delay in the detention motion, arguing that Knight poses a danger to the community. Federal Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle approved the continuance, rescheduling the hearing for the following Tuesday.
Currently, Knight is being held at the Northern State Correctional Facility in St. Albans Town pending the upcoming hearing, with the investigation being supported by the FBI. The Vermont Drug Task Force continues to pursue the case as they work to combat drug distribution in the region.
