Oregon man indicted, arrested for transporting a minor for sexual purposes. The FBI is seeking additional information.
An Oregon man, Steven Fox, 59, was arrested by the FBI in Portland following a federal grand jury indictment in Alaska. The indictment accuses him of transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. This case has garnered significant attention due to the gravity of the allegations against Fox.
Court documents reveal that Fox relocated from Pendleton, Oregon, to Anchorage, Alaska, in 2019. During that time, he allegedly posed as a long-lost "uncle" to a family with two minor daughters and began caring for them. By January 2020, he allegedly transported the minors from Alaska to Oregon, where he began sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl shortly after their departure.
Fox faces one count of transportation of minors and is set to appear in court for the first time at 1:30 p.m. PST. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence ranging from 10 years to life, with the exact term determined by a federal district court judge based on applicable guidelines.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI Anchorage Field Office in conjunction with the Anchorage Police Department and supported by the Pendleton Police Department and the FBI Portland Field Office. U.S. Attorney Michael J. Heyman of Alaska and other officials announced the indictment as part of ongoing efforts to address child exploitation.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation. Under this program, federal, state, and local resources are coordinated to apprehend offenders and rescue victims. It is important to note that an indictment is an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
