Janitor arrested for sexually assaulting dementia patient at Lincoln nursing home, police say

A 63-year-old janitor, Derald Wiltshire, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly sexually assaulting a patient at a nursing home in Lincoln, Nebraska. The arrest took place at the Emerald Nursing Home, located near South and 10th streets, after police received a report of an assault shortly before 12:30 p.m.
According to the police, an employee at the nursing home discovered Wiltshire in the room of a 78-year-old female patient, who suffers from dementia, with the door closed. The employee found Wiltshire groping the woman while she was partially undressed, prompting immediate action.
Following the report, officers conducted several interviews to gather information about the incident. The investigation led to Wiltshire being taken into custody.
He now faces charges of abuse of a vulnerable adult and third-degree sexual assault. The case has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of residents at nursing facilities.
