Man pleads not guilty of emailing threats to Sioux City cop

A 45-year-old man from Sioux City, Christopher Moyle, has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree harassment against a police officer. He entered his written plea in Woodbury County District Court, facing allegations of sending around 24 threatening emails to the officer between January 30 and March 7.
The emails sent by Moyle contained alarming content, with some messages indicating he had knowledge of the officer’s home address and listing various types of firearms and ammunition. One particularly disturbing message included a reference implying that Moyle was tracking the officer, stating, "They call me gunner ... I got you in my scope."
Court documents reveal that the officer has had only two prior interactions with Moyle. The first occurred in 2022 when the officer encountered Moyle inside a house while he was armed with an ice axe and uncooperative, leading the officer to use a non-lethal round to take him into custody. The second exchange took place during a deposition related to that incident.
Currently, Moyle is in custody at the Woodbury County Jail, and a judge has mandated that he must have no contact with the officer involved. This case has garnered attention in the community amid other news events and public safety discussions.
