Waterloo man arrested for alleged sexual assault of Uber driver

A 39-year-old man from Waterloo, Darion Martez Halliburton, has been arrested on charges of second-degree sexual abuse following an alleged incident with a ride-share driver in February. The arrest took place on Monday, and Halliburton's bond has been set at $75,000.

According to court records, the alleged assault occurred on February 10 when Halliburton summoned an Uber driver to a location on Dawson Street. Upon her arrival, he entered the vehicle, brandished a handgun, and forced her to drive to a nearby driveway. He then took her to a residence where he reportedly held her against her will and sexually assaulted her for approximately three hours before letting her leave.

Halliburton, who previously resided in Cedar Rapids, is currently on federal supervised release after having served a prison sentence for crack cocaine distribution. In 2008, he was involved in distributing over 3.5 kilograms of crack cocaine in the Cedar Rapids area and was facing a life sentence under federal law.

He accepted a plea deal and was initially sentenced to 17.5 years; however, this was later reduced to 14 years due to changes in sentencing reforms for drug offenses. Halliburton was released from prison in November 2020.

This latest incident adds to his troubling history, and authorities continue to investigate the situation. The community remains on alert as police report ongoing concerns regarding public safety.
