SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A 69-year-old man, Kurtis Kim Meyer, has been charged with sexually assaulting a child. He faces five counts of Sexual Contact with a Child Under the Age of Sixteen and was arrested on Monday, subsequently booked into the Minnehaha County Jail.

The case began on May 18, 2024, when Sioux Falls Police received a report from the mother of the victim, who discovered details in her daughter’s journal about the sexual abuse that occurred when the child was between the ages of five and nine. The mother reported that Meyer had forced her daughter to sit on his lap and touched her inappropriately over a span from 2017 to 2021.

During a subsequent interview at Child's Voice, a nationally accredited Children's Advocacy Center, the victim revealed that Meyer's behavior escalated as she grew older. Furthermore, investigators learned that another woman had come forward, alleging similar abuse by Meyer when she was between three and five years old, although she decided not to pursue charges.

On March 3, Meyer spoke with investigators, acknowledging that he had sexually assaulted the first victim but denied any wrongdoing concerning the second victim. Additionally, he confessed to watching child pornography multiple times a week for nine months around the time he faced possession charges in 2012, a case that was eventually dismissed.

Meyer appeared in court for his initial hearing on Tuesday morning, facing serious accusations that highlight the ongoing issues of sexual abuse and the importance of reporting such crimes.
