Butte credit union robbery suspect appears in court

A man arrested shortly after a credit union robbery in Butte made his initial court appearance on March 24. Andrew James Davis, 31, appeared via Zoom from the Butte Detention Center, facing charges related to the Southwest Montana Federal Credit Union robbery on Elizabeth Warren Avenue, which occurred earlier that day.
Davis has been charged with felony robbery, which carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in a Montana State Prison and potential fines of up to $50,000. During the court proceedings, he requested a lawyer and declined to answer questions. According to charging documents, Davis entered the credit union around 12:20 p.m. and handed a note demanding cash but did not use a weapon, and thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.
After the robbery, law enforcement acted quickly, and less than two hours later, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper stopped Davis on I-15 west of Rocker. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond, with stipulations for GPS monitoring should he post bail.
Davis's next hearing is set for April 24 in the Butte-Silver Bow County District Court. The case continues to be a focal point for local authorities as they manage the aftermath of the robbery and the legal proceedings ahead.
As the situation develops, the Butte community remains attentive, and updates are expected as new information comes to light regarding the case and any implications it may have for local safety and law enforcement responses.
