CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) -- A local mechanic, Savong Sam, will be recognized by the city of Cranston for his role in locating a missing woman with autism. Mayor Ken Hopkins will present Sam with a citation at a ceremony on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Cranston City Hall.

Savong Sam discovered 45-year-old Linda DeLomba while working on an unattended car parked on Pond Street. Upon opening the back door, he found her curled up inside, prompting him to alert the authorities.

Following the discovery, police arrested Linda's caregiver, Roberta Gerard, who now faces several serious charges, including felony abuse of an adult with severe impairments.

Gerard, who is currently out on bail, is scheduled to return to court in June to face these charges.

Savong's quick actions not only led to the safe recovery of DeLomba but also highlighted the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals.
