Blue state leader sounds alarm about 'perfect storm' of Dem immigration policies decimating public safety - WFIN Local News

Massachusetts state Sen. Ryan Fattman, a Republican, is raising concerns about the adverse effects of Democratic policies on public safety and the state's cost of living. He points to a 2017 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling, Lunn vs. Commonwealth, which prohibits local and state law enforcement from cooperating with immigration enforcement. This ruling restricts police from honoring ICE detainer requests, often resulting in the release of dangerous undocumented immigrants, including individuals charged with serious crimes like child rape and fentanyl trafficking, back into communities.
Fattman highlights the financial burden placed on the state due to a "Right to Shelter" law, which has led to the establishment of numerous migrant shelters at a cost of over $3 billion to taxpayers since 2021. Reports from whistleblowers indicate significant abuse within the shelter system, including cases of drug trafficking and serious sexual crimes. Public records revealed thousands of incidents involving violence and crime linked to undocumented individuals residing in state-funded shelters, raising serious questions about public safety in Massachusetts.
Fattman attributes the current crisis in the state to the policies enacted by Democratic Governor Maura Healey and the Democratic majority in the legislature. He criticizes the expenditure of billions on a predominantly rejected asylum-seeking population, emphasizing that 99% of political asylum cases do not gain legal residency status. Fattman argues that this misallocation of resources is detrimental to the safety and welfare of residents, asserting that people are increasingly frustrated as crime rates rise and safety becomes a pressing concern.
To address these issues, Fattman has introduced the "Shield Act," which seeks to empower law enforcement to collaborate with ICE and keep criminal undocumented immigrants off the streets. Despite Massachusetts being a predominantly Democratic state, Fattman believes there is growing dissatisfaction among citizens who are increasingly aware of local crime events and the strain imposed by migration policies. He insists that this situation has reached an untenable point, where residents demand significant changes from their leaders.
Continuing to voice his concerns, Fattman describes the stark contradiction between state policies offering financial support to migrants and the mounting violence faced by lawful residents. He predicts that with rising tensions around public safety and fiscal responsibility, the general public may soon compel legislators to take action to rectify these pressing issues in Massachusetts.
