An alternate juror from Karen Read's initial trial, Victoria B. George, Esq., has joined her defense team as preparations ramp up for her retrial. According to a court source, George was added to the team on Wednesday, just days before jury selection begins.

Although George did not take part in jury deliberations last summer, she was part of the jury selection process and heard all the testimony presented during the trial. This background could prove beneficial as she assists in the upcoming jury selection for Read’s retrial.

Judge Beverly Cannone is currently finalizing a jury questionnaire aimed at gauging potential jurors' biases, particularly regarding their trust in police investigations and perceptions of crash reconstruction testimony. These factors are crucial for ensuring a fair and impartial jury.

Karen Read faces serious charges in connection with the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, who prosecutors allege was struck by Read's SUV and left to die in the snow outside a Canton residence in 2022. Her defense claims that she is being falsely accused.

Jury selection is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, involving hundreds of potential jurors. As details unfold, updates will be provided by 7NEWS both on-air and online.
