GRESHAM, Neb. (KSNB) - Following a significant police operation on Tuesday afternoon, five children were placed into state custody after deputies from York County executed a raid at a residence in Gresham. The operation revealed alarming conditions that led to the removal of the children from their home.

According to a press release from the York County Sheriff, the raid occurred at a house located in the 500 Block of Elm Street, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. Law enforcement discovered a range of dangerous items, including several deadly weapons, methamphetamine, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia during the search.

Sgt. Taylor Samek highlighted that the investigation uncovered evidence suggesting child abuse and neglect within the household. Consequently, five children were taken into custody and placed under the care of the Department of Health and Human Services for their protection.

The individuals arrested include 55-year-old Charles Overgaard and 48-year-old Corina Black, both residents of Gresham. They face multiple charges, including possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, child abuse, and possession of controlled substances, among others. Additionally, 32-year-old Nicolas Sendgraff from Omaha was arrested on a warrant out of Dodge County.

As the situation unfolds, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of York County is stepping in to support the children involved by collecting childcare items and toys for them. Charges against Overgaard and Black are pending in York County, and they remained in custody at the York County jail as of Wednesday morning.
