A man arrested shortly after a credit union robbery in Butte made his initial court appearance today. Andrew James Davis, 31, attended the Butte-Silver Bow Justice Court via Zoom from the Butte Detention Center, where he is currently held. He is charged with felony robbery in connection with the incident at the Southwest Montana Federal Credit Union on Elizabeth Warren Avenue.

During the court proceeding, Davis requested legal counsel and refrained from answering questions. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in Montana State Prison and potentially a $50,000 fine. According to charging documents, Davis entered the credit union, handed a note demanding money, and left with an undisclosed amount.

Sheriff Ed Lester reported that the robbery took place around 12:20 p.m., emphasizing that no weapon was involved and no injuries occurred during the incident. Just two hours later, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper apprehended Davis on I-15 west of Rocker.

Davis remains in custody with a bond set at $50,000, and he must pay for GPS monitoring if released on bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for April 24 in Butte-Silver Bow County District Court.
