CEDAR FALLS -- The Cedar Falls Police Division has issued a warning to residents regarding phone scams involving a caller impersonating one of its officers and requesting money. The scammer has been claiming that there are active arrest warrants and is asking for sensitive financial information or payment through a kiosk.

The Cedar Falls Police Department (CFPD) emphasizes that officers will never reach out to individuals over the phone to arrange payments for charges or to solicit signatures. They reaffirm that citizens are not obligated to pay in order to avoid arrests and advise against sharing any personal information via phone or online.

Residents who receive such scam calls are urged to hang up immediately. If there are any concerns or questions, individuals can contact the CFPD at (319) 273-8612 or reach out to Black Hawk County Dispatch at (319) 291-2515 for further assistance.

The alert comes as cybercrime continues to pose a threat, particularly in areas known for technology and political activities. The rise in such scams underscores the importance of staying informed and vigilant about personal information security.

For ongoing updates and local public safety news, residents can sign up for the CFPD's Crime & Courts newsletter, ensuring they are kept informed about potential threats and safety measures in the community.
