Probation for Rochester Man in AK-47 Threat and Theft Cases

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Jorge Lozano, a 27-year-old Rochester man, has been sentenced to probation following an incident involving an AK-47 style rifle. Lozano recently reached a plea agreement concerning charges stemming from a June 2023 confrontation where he allegedly threatened a man with the firearm outside the victim's home.
The victim reported to Rochester police that he was followed by another vehicle, from which Lozano emerged, pointing what appeared to be an AK-47 rifle at him. Disturbingly, the victim's seven-year-old daughter was with him during this frightening encounter, leading him to express fears for both their lives. He identified Lozano as the individual with the weapon.
Lozano was apprehended approximately a week after the incident during a traffic stop on Highway 52, where officers discovered an assault-style rifle on the floor of the vehicle he occupied. As a result, he faced charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, but under the plea agreement, he accepted an amended charge of threats of violence.
In addition to the assault charge, court records indicated that Lozano pleaded guilty to two felony theft charges. These charges included his involvement in the theft of a dirt bike from a storage facility in Oronoco in March 2023 and over $3,000 worth of merchandise stolen from a Rochester business in September 2023.
During his sentencing in Olmsted County Court, Lozano was placed on five years of probation for all three convictions, with credit given for the 194 days he has already spent in jail.
