Deeper look at the background of PLCS employee arrested after reports of child sexual assault

LA VISTA, Neb. (KMTV) – Jeffrey Fauble, a school psychologist for the Papillion La Vista School District, was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a child. The allegations against the 44-year-old psychologist, who worked at G. Stanley Hall Elementary, do not involve any students from the school district. Fauble's past includes a questionable tenure as a deputy for Pottawattamie County, where he was accused in 2010 of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
Prior to his role as a school psychologist and a paraprofessional at Ralston Public Schools, Fauble's history as a law enforcement officer raised concerns that led to a petition for his decertification in 2010. By 2011, Fauble had lost his certification as a law enforcement officer. KMTV's investigation revealed these details through various channels and highlights the complexities in the protocol for background checks in educational settings.
Felica Hazuka, president of One Source A Background Check Company, explained that standard background checks typically focus on registries and criminal offenses but are limited by federal laws to incidents occurring within the last seven years. She noted that while convictions are reported, arrests without convictions might not appear in the results.
Dan Stevens, CEO of DDS Employee Screening Services, further emphasized that federal checks cannot search back further than seven years. This limitation raises concerns about the ability of schools and employers to access comprehensive histories of potential employees, especially when past allegations could be relevant to current positions.
Fauble is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, March 27, at 1 p.m. KMTV reached out to the Papillion La Vista School District to acquire details regarding their background check processes, but officials declined to provide any specific information.
