Helena man gets life in prison for 2024 homicide

A Helena man has been sentenced to life in prison for the deliberate homicide of Bernadette Johnson, which occurred last June. Judge Mike McMahon described the crime as "heinous" and highlighted the severe impact on the victim's family and loved ones. Kenneth Greene, convicted in January, will also be required to pay restitution to Johnson's family.
The tragic incident took place on June 21, 2024, when Johnson was dropping off her boyfriend at the La Quinta Inn and Suites, where he was employed. Greene confronted Johnson and shot her in the chest with a .40 caliber pistol, leading to her untimely death.
During the sentencing, family and friends of Johnson gathered to remember her and express their grief over her loss. Linda Armiko Gardipee shared heartfelt memories, describing Johnson as a hardworking and joyful person who connected with nearly everyone she encountered.
The court’s decision reflects both the seriousness of Greene's actions and the profound loss felt by Johnson’s family. The community mourns the absence of a vibrant individual who brightened the lives of those around her.
Greene's life sentence comes without the possibility of parole, underscoring the gravity of his crime and the irreversible pain inflicted upon an entire family. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating effects of violence.
