ONLY ON 5: Attorney representing 3 WMPD officers says allegations are false

Arkansas attorney Luther Sutter has asserted that the sexual misconduct allegations against his clients are unfounded, urging the Arkansas State Police, the FBI, and the Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney to investigate the West Memphis Police Department (WMPD). Sutter represents four individuals who have reported troubling incidents involving WMPD, including his client Devin Lewis.
Lewis recounted an incident from mid-March when, while attempting to start his car at a gas station, he was confronted by several police officers inquiring about a person named Nick. Despite repeatedly clarifying his identity, Lewis claimed the situation escalated as the officers forcefully subdued him. He described being grabbed and forcefully slammed to the ground.
Sutter believes there is a disturbing pattern of excessive force employed by WMPD officers, arguing that this behavior reflects a broader issue within the department. He pointed out that the lack of disciplinary action against officers who engage in such conduct contributes to ongoing abuse of power among the police.
In addition to representing Lewis, Sutter also advocates for Mose Walker, one of the other individuals who has brought forward claims against WMPD, highlighting the department's alleged culture of excessive force and misconduct under Chief Robbin Campbell Jr. Sutter has categorized the sexual harassment charges against his clients as attempts at retaliation.
Following his encounter with law enforcement, Lewis expressed a heightened fear of police, stating that he has become apprehensive about leaving his home for fear of further mistreatment. This sentiment underscores the deep-seated concerns regarding police conduct in West Memphis.
