Newport police: Providence man stabbed victim multiple times in the back | ABC6

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) -- A Providence man was arrested by Newport police Wednesday night for allegedly stabbing a city man multiple times in the back. The incident took place around 6:12 p.m. at 12 Dudley Avenue, prompting officers to respond after receiving reports that the suspect had fled the scene in a red Honda CRV with California plates.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 35-year-old Newport man suffering from several stab wounds in his back. He was promptly transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Through their investigation, officers identified 39-year-old Hezekiah Mendoza from Providence as the suspect and secured an arrest warrant for him. Mendoza was later found in his parked vehicle during a patrol on Wellington Avenue near Kings Park early Thursday morning.
The police arrested Mendoza and brought him to the Newport Police Station. He now faces charges of assault with intent to commit specified felonies as well as disorderly conduct, with an arraignment scheduled at the Newport District Court on the same day.
