Judge to sentence 2 repeat offenders for 2021 deadly robbery

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A judge is set to sentence Samantha Shull and Jeffrey Contreras for their involvement in a robbery that resulted in the death of their friend, Mario Delgado Jr., in 2021. Both were initially charged with first-degree murder for orchestrating the robbery at Delgado's trailer in southeast Albuquerque.
Shull was arrested in Roswell two years after the incident when she crashed into law enforcement vehicles during a pursuit. This led to her eventual capture by authorities. In a turn of events, she negotiated a plea deal that allowed her to avoid the murder charge by pleading guilty to armed robbery, conspiracy, and tampering with evidence. As a habitual offender, Shull is facing an enhanced sentence.
Contreras, who is already in custody for other homicide-related charges, was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder along with six additional charges in connection to the same case. His involvement further complicates the ongoing legal proceedings.
The judge is expected to impose sentences on both Shull and Contreras on Thursday afternoon. According to the plea deal, Shull faces a potential prison term of 10 to 15 years for her charges.
The case underscores the serious consequences of crime and manipulation among acquaintances, highlighting the tragic outcome that unfolded in this situation.
