Tasha Oliver, a former middle school principal in Delaware, has been charged with raping a student over a four-year period while she worked as a teacher at Stanton Middle School. Oliver, who served as the principal at AI DuPont Middle School from 2020 to 2023, faces serious allegations, including rape and sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust, stemming from incidents that reportedly occurred between August 2010 and June 2014.

Court documents reveal that the abuse took place in New Castle County, where authorities believe Oliver exploited her role to engage in the misconduct. The case gained attention following an investigation that led to her arrest in September 2023, although specific details about the investigation remain sealed under Delaware's Freedom of Information Act.

After her arrest, the Red Clay School District placed Oliver on leave without providing any explanation to parents. She was subsequently released on a $205,000 bail, with a court hearing set for May. The district claimed it had no prior knowledge of the allegations against her, emphasizing that they were not informed by the authorities before her arrest.

In response to the situation, Delaware's Department of Justice admitted to failing to notify the public and parents in a timely manner regarding the allegations. A spokesperson for the Department took responsibility for the oversight, attributing the delay to internal issues like staff turnover and procedural hurdles.

Moving forward, the Department of Justice has pledged to improve communication with the public and ensure that parents are informed more promptly about such cases in the future. This commitment comes as a crucial step to maintain transparency and trust within the community regarding the safety of students and reporting of misconduct.
