Video: Car runs red light, hits APD sergeant's vehicle

An Albuquerque police sergeant is recovering after a serious incident where a driver ran a red light and collided with his vehicle on Tuesday evening. The driver, identified as Andrew Sandoval, was found to be a convicted felon who had been driving a stolen car at the time of the crash.
Video footage captured the moment Sandoval’s car sped through a red light at the intersection of Wyoming and Copper, impacting the sergeant's unit with enough force to send it crashing into nearby poles. Fortunately, other officers arrived on the scene quickly, as they had been tracking Sandoval and attempting to pull him over due to the vehicle being reported stolen.
Sandoval's criminal history is extensive, and he was already on probation and parole at the time of the incident. His actions not only endangered the life of the sergeant but also posed a significant risk to others on the road.
In light of the circumstances surrounding the crash, police indicated that the case has the potential to escalate to federal charges, given the implications of the stolen vehicle and Sandoval's criminal background.
The recovery of the injured sergeant is ongoing, and the police department continues to investigate the incident further.
