Louisiana State Police Makes Fraud Arrest

Louisiana State Police have extradited a woman from Kentucky to face charges related to theft and fraudulent online transactions. The 48-year-old suspect, identified as a resident of Annville, Kentucky, was apprehended following a collaborative investigation between Louisiana and Kentucky law enforcement that began in October 2023.
Reports of online scams have surged over the last fifteen years, often going unreported by victims. Incidents range from fake sales on social media to heart-wrenching "lost dog" schemes, highlighting the variety of tactics used by scammers to deceive individuals out of their money. The Better Business Bureau of Acadiana has implemented a Scam Tracker feature for residents to report such incidents across various platforms.
The investigation into the Kentucky woman commenced when detectives from the Louisiana State Police's Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft section partnered with the Kentucky State Police. They successfully identified her as a suspect in the online marketplace scams and presented their findings to the 15th Judicial District Court. Following her arrest in Kentucky, extradition to Louisiana took place a month later.
Upon her arrival in Lafayette, the woman was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on multiple charges. In light of the prevalence of scams, authorities urge anyone who suspects they have been victimized to report the incident through the LA-SAFE website or hotline, ensuring that such criminal activities can be tracked and addressed.
