Couple arrested after police find 6 kids in 'disgusting' conditions in Preston County

A couple in Preston County, West Virginia, was arrested after police discovered six children, aged 1 to 10, living in appalling conditions at their Tunnelton home. Chester Keen, 47, and Brittany Nelson, 28, were charged with felony child neglect, as authorities found the children in a dangerous and unsanitary environment.
The police were alerted when two young children, ages 1 and 3, were seen wandering in the roadway with little clothing in freezing temperatures. Upon arrival, officers described the home as extremely disorganized and hazardous, raising significant concerns about the children's safety.
Inside the residence, law enforcement noted that there was no adequate heating, with the only heat source being an unsecured open stove. This further contributed to the dangerous living conditions for the children.
In response to the dire situation, the two youngest children were taken to Preston Memorial Hospital for treatment and observation. The conditions of the home highlighted the urgent need for intervention to protect the vulnerable children.
Both Keen and Nelson are currently held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, with their bonds set at $50,000 each. The case underlines the critical issues of child welfare and neglect in the community.
