Doctor accused of trying to kill wife on Hawaii hiking trail

A doctor in Hawaii, Dr. Gerhardt Konig, has been charged with second-degree murder after an incident on a hiking trail where he allegedly tried to kill his wife. The 46-year-old anesthesiologist was hiking with his wife at Pali Puka trail when he reportedly attempted to push her off the trail and then struck her multiple times in the head with a rock.

Emergency services were called, and the victim was transported to a hospital, where she is currently listed in critical condition. Authorities responded quickly to the incident and located Konig after a brief foot pursuit nearby on Pali Highway.

Konig, a partner at the Anesthesia Medical Group in Maui, has maintained a valid medical license in Hawaii since September 27, 2022, despite the serious charges against him. The legal process will now determine the outcome of the case as the investigation continues.
