Police arrest driver accused of killing pedestrian in crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in northeast Albuquerque on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Tramway Boulevard and Cloudview Avenue.

According to investigators, two women were walking along the south shoulder of Tramway when a Buick SUV traveling south struck one of them, causing serious injuries before the driver fled the scene. Tragically, the injured woman later succumbed to her injuries.

Police were able to locate the driver, identified as 38-year-old Jonathan Gallegos, who allegedly confessed to consuming alcohol prior to getting behind the wheel.

Currently, authorities are awaiting the results of a blood test to ascertain Gallegos' alcohol level at the time of the incident.

As the investigation continues, Gallegos faces a serious charge of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
