A Pittsfield man was sentenced Thursday following his arrest for stealing a FedEx truck and leading police on a high-speed chase into Marion County, Missouri. Devon L. Wagner, 26, pleaded guilty to two charges—receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle and burglary without causing damage—both of which carry a five-year sentence that will be served concurrently. A third charge, theft involving $10,000 to $100,000, was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The incident occurred on December 12 when a FedEx driver left his truck running while delivering a package in Quincy, Illinois. Upon returning, he found Wagner had driven off in the vehicle. Local deputies attempted to stop Wagner, but he refused to yield, prompting a multi-agency pursuit that included the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

As the chase continued, officers deployed spike strips in an effort to bring the stolen truck to a halt. Wagner was ultimately apprehended just south of Palmyra, Missouri, near the junction of US 61 and US 24. Following his arrest, he was credited with 84 days for time served.

In addition to the charges related to the FedEx incident, Wagner faces other accusations in Marion County, including tampering with a motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing a stop. Further complicating his legal troubles is an outstanding arrest warrant for his failure to appear at a plea/trial setting hearing scheduled for January.

Wagner’s case highlights the serious consequences of vehicle theft and the lengths law enforcement must go to address such criminal activity. The legal ramifications he faces could significantly impact his future as he confronts additional charges and outstanding warrants.
