Man accused of keeping human remains in storage unit after losing funeral license
Authorities in Mississippi have discovered human remains of three individuals in a storage unit, raising significant concerns within the community. Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons expressed his dismay over the finding, calling it both "deeply disturbing" and underscoring the need for a comprehensive investigation. He extended his thoughts and prayers to the families potentially affected by this tragic event.
Albert Creath, the former owner of Creath Memorial Services, has been arrested and charged with improper desecration of corpses. Washington County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Billy Barber stated that Creath was using storage units to conduct funeral and burial services despite having lost his license and business.
The investigation began when deputies responded to a report about a casket in the unit. Upon arrival, they uncovered that Creath had been operating the storage unit as a makeshift funeral home, continuing to charge families for services while violating legal regulations.
Mayor Simmons emphasized the community's values of dignity, respect, and adherence to the law, insisting that actions like those committed by Creath would not be tolerated. He encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.
The Washington County Sheriff's Department is actively collaborating with other local and state law enforcement agencies to further investigate this disturbing situation.
