Dunbar man faces prison time after selling meth to confidential informant, prosecutors say

A Kanawha County man is facing significant legal consequences after admitting to selling illegal drugs to a confidential informant. Donald Renard Taylor, 49, from Dunbar, pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.

According to federal prosecutors, Taylor sold nearly 200 grams of methamphetamine in 2023, completing the transactions over three separate occasions with the informant in Dunbar. This activity ultimately led law enforcement to investigate further.

During a search of Taylor's residence, authorities discovered not only methamphetamine but also fentanyl, cocaine, six firearms, and over $19,000 in cash. The extent of the operation highlights the severity of the charges against him.

Taylor is scheduled for sentencing on July 8, where he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. In addition to the prison time, he could also encounter at least three years of supervised release and a hefty fine of $1 million.

This case underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the area and the legal repercussions that come with such offenses.
