Police pursuit ends with car crashing into utility pole, knocking out power to hundreds

A pursuit initiated by Capitol police in Jackson, Mississippi, ended dramatically when the suspect crashed his vehicle into a light pole, resulting in a power outage affecting hundreds of residents. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, around 11 p.m., when officers attempted to stop a car driven by 31-year-old Jarvis Crump near State Street and Mitchell Avenue.
Instead of yielding, Crump led authorities on a brief chase that culminated in a crash at Derrick and Bailey Avenue. After the wreck, he attempted to flee on foot but was ultimately apprehended, according to a spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
Crump now faces charges including felony fleeing and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. His actions not only endangered himself and the police but also disrupted the community by causing power outages in the area.
As a result of the crash, more than 250 customers were reported to be without electricity. Entergy, the local utility company, was actively working to restore power to those affected on Thursday.
The incident highlights the risks involved in police pursuits and the far-reaching consequences such events can have on the community.
