A Maui doctor, Gerhardt Konig, is facing serious legal repercussions after he allegedly attacked his wife while they were hiking on Pali Puka Trail in Honolulu. According to police reports, the violent incident occurred when Konig attempted to take a selfie with his wife near the edge of the trail. When she expressed discomfort and attempted to walk away, he allegedly pushed her into bushes and the two began to struggle.

During the altercation, Konig reportedly struck his wife on the head multiple times with a rock and attempted to use two syringes on her, which she managed to wrestle away. The victim sustained significant injuries, including large lacerations to her face and head, leading to her hospitalization in serious but stable condition. She managed to escape and sought help from nearby hikers, who called 911.

Konig has since been charged with attempted murder, with his bail set at $5 million. A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for next week. After the incident, he fled the scene, prompting an extensive search by authorities, which ended in his arrest later that evening following a brief foot chase.

In response to the allegations, Maui Health has suspended Konig, who is an anesthesiologist, pending further investigation. Although he provided medical services under contract with Kaiser Permanente, the organization has also suspended his credentials and ability to treat patients.

The horrifying nature of this assault raises serious concerns, and both media reports and local officials are closely monitoring the ongoing investigation as the legal proceedings unfold.
