Man previously accused of head-butting MPD officer arrested again after victim shot during argument
A 31-year-old man from Mobile, Cortez Goff, has been arrested and is currently at Mobile County Metro Jail facing multiple charges, including first-degree assault. The Mobile Police Department announced his arrest, which took place on Thursday, following a violent incident at the Dauphin Gate Apartments on March 21.
During the altercation, Goff allegedly fired shots into the apartment while threatening its occupants with a firearm. One male victim was struck by gunfire and sustained minor injuries, necessitating hospitalization. Police have reported on the serious nature of Goff's actions during this incident.
In addition to first-degree assault, Goff is charged with several other offenses: domestic violence assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling, two counts of menacing, and two counts of reckless endangerment. These charges underline the severity of the situation and the potential risks posed by Goff's behavior.
This isn't Goff's first encounter with law enforcement; records indicate that he had previously been at Metro Jail in late October. During that incident, responding officers charged him with resisting arrest after he allegedly assaulted an officer by head-butting them while being taken into custody.
Goff's recent arrest adds to a concerning pattern of behavior, and the nature of the charges suggests a serious escalation in his alleged criminal activity. As authorities continue to address the situation, the community remains on alert regarding safety and security in the area.
