Man previously accused of head-butting MPD officer arrested again after victim shot during argument
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Cortez Goff, a 31-year-old man from Mobile, has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault, as indicated by jail records. His recent arrest took place on Thursday, following an alarming incident that transpired at Dauphin Gate Apartments.
On the night of March 21, Goff allegedly fired shots into an occupied apartment during an argument, according to the Mobile Police Department. A male victim suffered minor injuries from the gunfire and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police reported that Goff threatened individuals inside the apartment before discharging his weapon.
In addition to first-degree assault, Goff faces multiple charges, including domestic violence assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling, two counts of menacing, and two counts of reckless endangerment. These serious allegations highlight the volatile nature of the incident.
This is not Goff's first encounter with law enforcement; he has a history of previous arrests. In late October, he was apprehended by the police during a separate domestic incident at the same apartment complex and faced charges for resisting arrest when he allegedly head-butted an officer.
As Goff awaits further legal proceedings, his return to Metro Jail underscores ongoing concerns about domestic violence and public safety in the community.
