Suspect in custody for non-fatal shooting of 21-year-old on March 17

On March 17, around 12:55 p.m., the Benton Township Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim at Corewell Health Lakeland. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the shooting had taken place at 777 E. Napier Ave.

The victim, a 21-year-old resident of Benton Harbor, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was swiftly taken into surgery. Following the incident, police launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

As part of their investigation, officers executed a search warrant on Thursday in the 100 block of E. Britain Avenue targeting the suspect. They successfully located and arrested the suspect, a 42-year-old Benton Harbor man.

After his arrest, the suspect was transported to the Berrien County Jail, where he will remain in custody. He is set to be arraigned at the Berrien County Courthouse on Friday.
