Boston man allegedly high on meth crashes truck in Vero Beach ditch

A man from Boston was arrested in Vero Beach after allegedly crashing his pickup truck into a ditch while under the influence of methamphetamines. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, prompting a response from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office (IRCSO) at around 8:08 a.m. Deputies discovered the unoccupied truck and began their investigation.
While examining the scene, deputies noticed a man and a woman walking nearby. A witness then directed them to a driveway where the suspected driver, identified as 38-year-old Gideon Rivera, was attempting to leave the area. Deputies approached Rivera, who was quickly taken into custody.
During the search, deputies found keys belonging to the truck in Rivera's possession. Despite this evidence, he denied being the driver, instead claiming that the woman with him had been behind the wheel. However, deputies observed signs that Rivera was under the influence.
When questioned further, Rivera admitted to using “ICE,” a common street name for methamphetamine, but continued to insist that the woman was the actual driver.
After receiving medical clearance at the Cleveland Clinic, Rivera was taken to the Indian River County Jail. He now faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence.
