A Clarksburg man, John Lucas, aged 28, was arrested after police discovered him with 35 grams of fentanyl in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The arrest took place around 8 a.m. Thursday in a Big Lots parking lot, prompted by a 911 call reporting a man with a gun.

Upon arrival, police conducted a frisk and found a pistol tucked in Lucas's waistband. Due to a prior domestic battery conviction from 2015, Lucas is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. During the encounter, he admitted to having drugs on him.

Officers found two small plastic bags in Lucas's right jacket pocket, one containing 20 grams of fentanyl and the other 15 grams. Additionally, nearly $5,000 was discovered in a fanny pack he was wearing, further suggesting possible involvement in drug trafficking.

As a result of these findings, Lucas has been charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and carrying a concealed weapon as a prohibited person. He is currently held at the North Central Regional Jail, with a bond set at $50,000.

This arrest highlights ongoing concerns regarding drug-related activities and firearm possession by individuals with prior convictions in the area.
