WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - In a tragic incident from 2023, Hailey Sigg has been sentenced to 82 months in prison following a hit-and-run that claimed the life of UNCW student McGroary "Rory" John Domitrovits. The sentencing took place at the New Hanover County Superior Court after Sigg pleaded guilty to all charges.

During her court appearance on March 28, Sigg took full responsibility for her actions. She was charged with several serious offenses including felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, driving while impaired, felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, and possession of an open container within the vehicle.

At the sentencing hearing, Domitrovits's family had the opportunity to address Sigg directly, underscoring the profound impact of her actions. According to arrest warrants, Sigg acknowledged having consumed alcohol at the time of the fatal incident on Eastwood Road.

The case highlights the severe consequences of impaired driving and hit-and-run incidents, demonstrating the legal repercussions that can follow such reckless behavior. Sigg's admission of guilt and acceptance of responsibility mark a critical step in a difficult process for all parties involved.

As this case concludes with Sigg's sentencing, it serves as a somber reminder of the responsibilities that come with driving and the devastating effects that can arise from negligence and poor choices behind the wheel.
