ROXBURY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- On March 25, Elizabeth Motts, 40, pleaded guilty to burglary in Delaware County Court following her involvement in a series of thefts. The case began on February 10, when officers responded to a local scrapyard for reports of ongoing domestic violence, where Motts was found fighting with a man while unloading metal sheets later confirmed to be stolen.

Three days later, on February 13, state troopers investigated Mountainside Creamery after receiving a report of stolen items and forced entry. The stolen goods included steel press plates, copper wire rolls, and yellow brass solids. Interestingly, a former employee had previously stolen copper wire from the creamery in November 2024, suggesting a pattern of theft in the area.

During the investigation, Trooper Carey interviewed the owner of a nearby scrap yard, leading to critical information regarding Motts's actions. She eventually confessed to aiding in the burglary at Mountainside Creamery and transporting the stolen materials to the scrapyard.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith expressed gratitude to Troopers Carey and Carron for their thorough work on the case. He highlighted that their efforts not only solved the burglary but also enabled the local business to recover its stolen property.

This incident sheds light on ongoing issues with theft in the area, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and effective law enforcement in addressing such crimes.
