Man found asleep at wheel and struck 2 cruisers in Milford, police say

MILFORD, CT (WFSB) - Nathan Araujo, a 36-year-old from Naugatuck, was arrested early Wednesday morning after falling asleep at the wheel of his red 2018 Chevy Corvette and colliding with two police cruisers. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of Schoolhouse Rd. and Bridgeport Ave. when officers were called to the scene due to reports of a man asleep in his vehicle.
Upon arrival, police discovered Araujo in the Corvette, which was still in drive and had misused license plates. Officers attempted to wake him and instruct him to shift the car into park, but instead, Araujo managed to back into one police cruiser before driving forward and striking another.
Following the collisions, police attempted to remove Araujo from the vehicle, leading to a brief foot chase before his arrest. During the encounter, he dropped an unregistered firearm and authorities found a significant quantity of suspected narcotics in his car.
Additionally, officers learned that Araujo is a convicted felon, which adds to the severity of his charges. He was charged appropriately and held on a bond of $210,000.
Araujo is scheduled to appear in court on April 23, facing multiple charges stemming from the incident, including the possession of illegal firearms and drugs.
