New Jersey school custodian gets jail term for contaminating food with bodily fluids, cleaner

A former New Jersey school custodian, Giovanni Impellizzeri, was sentenced to eight years in state prison for disturbing acts involving food contamination and possession of illicit material. At 27 years old, Impellizzeri admitted to tainting food and cleaning products intended for children and staff, as well as inappropriately handling cooking utensils. Before his sentencing, he expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that there were no justifiable reasons for his behavior.

Impellizzeri was employed by the Upper Deerfield Township School District when he filmed himself contaminating food items and utensils, subsequently sharing these videos online, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office. The disturbing nature of these videos led to an investigation by health officials and law enforcement.

In 2023, county health authorities became aware of the allegations and stated that, although the fluids involved were concerning, they were unlikely to pose significant health risks. No illnesses linked to his actions have been reported to date, but the situation raised alarm among parents and staff in the school district.

In addition to the food contamination charges, Impellizzeri also pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material, which was uncovered during the investigation into his viral videos. The discovery of this material further complicated his legal troubles and contributed to the severity of his sentence.
