BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) -- Giovanni Impellizzeri, a former custodian for the Upper Deerfield Township School District, was sentenced to eight years in state prison for contaminating food and utensils meant for children and staff. The 27-year-old from Vineland admitted to his actions and expressed remorse in court, stating he had no excuses for his behavior.

In 2023, authorities discovered videos recorded by Impellizzeri showing him putting bodily fluids and cleaning products in food, as well as placing cooking utensils on his genitals. These videos were shared online, leading to an investigation by the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.

Health officials assessed the situation after becoming aware of the allegations and concluded that the bodily fluids involved were unlikely to pose significant health risks. Thankfully, no illnesses related to the incidents have been reported.

In addition to the misconduct charges, Impellizzeri pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material, which was uncovered during the investigation of his videos. This added charge has further compounded the consequences of his actions.

The case highlights not only a severe breach of trust within a school environment but also raises concerns about the safety and welfare of children in educational institutions.
