Peoria man sentenced to federal prison for possession of meth

A Peoria man faces a significant federal prison sentence for his involvement in methamphetamine distribution. Romel Turner, 31, has been sentenced to 12.5 years behind bars for dealing 50 grams or more of meth while awaiting his state incarceration.
Prior to this federal sentence, Turner was already convicted in Peoria County on charges of unlawful possession of meth. In October 2023, he received a sentence of six years, with plans to self-surrender in January 2024. However, during the interim, Turner engaged in further illegal activity.
In December 2023, while awaiting his state prison term, Turner distributed methamphetamine on at least three occasions. This significant breach of the law led to the federal charges that culminated in his current sentencing.
Turner's actions caught the attention of law enforcement, resulting in a swift legal response. The federal court has now imposed a lengthy prison term that underscores the seriousness of his crimes.
Looking ahead, Turner's projected parole date for his Peoria County case is set for December 2026, adding to the consequences of his criminal behavior.
