Jury convicts man of child sexual assault, sentences total 120 years

A jury in Potter County, Texas, has found Richard Taylor guilty on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, leading to a substantial sentence of 120 years in prison. The trial unfolded during the week of March 17 and examined incidents occurring in both New Mexico and Texas.

The victim, who is now an adult, recounted her harrowing experiences of abuse during childhood visits to family in Amarillo. This case was particularly notable as Taylor had previously served time in New Mexico for similar crimes.

Following the jury's decision, each count resulted in a recommended sentence of 60 years, which Judge Dee Johnson ordered to be served consecutively. This significant ruling underscores the severity of the offenses and the court's commitment to justice.

Jason Herring, the 47th District Attorney, highlighted the importance of the verdict, stating, "Verdicts like the one in this case provide justice for this particular victim." He expressed hope that this outcome would encourage other survivors of abuse to come forward.
