Man accused of shooting girlfriend's son in the face during domestic dispute in Hazel Park

A Michigan man, Charles Thomas, 51, from Hazel Park, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting his girlfriend's son during a confrontation. The incident took place on E. Harry Avenue earlier this week, following an argument that escalated between Thomas and the victim's mother. The victim, 22, had come over to help move belongings.
According to reports, tensions rose when the victim confronted Thomas about his disrespectful behavior toward his mother. During the argument, Thomas allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim. In an attempt to defuse the situation, the mother tried to escort her son out, but things took a violent turn when Thomas allegedly shot the victim in the shoulder and then a second time in the face.
In a surprising turn of events, the victim managed to recover and retrieve his own firearm, allegedly shooting Thomas multiple times in the finger, wrist, and chest. Following the altercation, both men left the house and drove separately to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Charles Thomas has been charged with one count of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felony firearm, among other felony charges. His bond has been set at $500,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court again on April 8.
The situation highlights the dangers of domestic disputes that can escalate quickly, leading to severe consequences for everyone involved.
