A jury in Amarillo, Texas, has convicted Richard Taylor for sexually abusing a child in incidents that occurred in both New Mexico and Texas. The trial, held in the 47th District Court, centered on two counts of aggravated sexual assault against a minor.

Prior to this trial, Taylor had already served a prison sentence in New Mexico for similar offenses. The abuse took place when the victim, who is now an adult, was visiting family in Amarillo, Texas. During the trial, she bravely testified about her traumatic experiences in both states.

After deliberation, the jury found Taylor guilty and recommended sentences of 60 years for each count. Following the jury's decision, Judge Dee Johnson agreed to the state's request to stack the sentences, resulting in a total punishment of 120 years in prison.

Taylor’s attorney responded by filing an appeal to contest the convictions just a week after the verdict. The legal proceedings reflect the seriousness with which such cases are treated in the judicial system.

This case highlights ongoing issues of child sexual abuse and the importance of legal recourse for victims seeking justice for their trauma.
