Two students at Highlands Ranch School in Colorado are potentially facing charges after allegedly placing a fake explosive device in the school. The incident occurred on Thursday when staff members spotted a suspicious device attached to a locker, prompting immediate action from the authorities.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a call just before noon and quickly evacuated students to Crest Middle School for their safety. Bomb technicians, along with additional deputies, were dispatched to assess the situation and determine if the device posed any real threat.

Upon evaluation, a bomb technician established that the device was a simulated explosive and posed no danger. It was subsequently removed from the locker without incident, ensuring the safety of students and staff.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified the two suspects and have recommended charges for possession of a hoax explosive, which is classified as a Class 5 felony. They also suggested charges for interference with an educational institution, which is a Class 2 misdemeanor.

The investigation remains active, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has indicated that no further details will be released at this time.
