Herriman man accused of animal cruelty after allegedly pepper-spraying a dog

A 55-year-old man from Herriman faces allegations of animal cruelty after reportedly pepper-spraying a dog. The incident came to light when the dog's owner contacted the Herriman police, stating that the dog was safely fenced in their backyard at the time of the attack.
The owner utilized security footage from a neighbor to create a social media post seeking assistance in identifying the individual responsible for the incident. In a Facebook post, the owner expressed outrage over the attack on their 20-pound Golden Doodle, prompting a community response that ultimately led to the identification of the suspect.
Authorities identified the suspect as Raymond Torres, based on tips generated from the online post. The police investigation revealed that there was no evidence to suggest that the dog posed any threat to Torres' safety at the time of the incident.
Herriman police released a statement affirming that no justifiable reason had been found for Torres to use pepper spray on the dog. Consequently, he now faces charges of animal cruelty along with disorderly conduct.
