Two Students May Face Charges for Allegedly Planting Hoax Explosive at Highlands Ranch High School
Two students at Highlands Ranch School in Colorado may face legal repercussions for allegedly placing a fake explosive device on school property, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Authorities were alerted shortly before noon on Thursday when staff discovered the suspicious object attached to a locker.
Following the discovery, the school promptly evacuated all students to Crest Middle School for safety while bomb technicians and law enforcement arrived to assess the situation. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office confirmed that bomb technicians determined the device to be a simulated explosive that posed no danger.
The hazardous object was subsequently removed by authorities. During the investigation, two suspects were identified and located by detectives, who have now recommended charges against them.
The recommended charges include possession of a hoax explosive, categorized as a Class 5 felony, as well as interference with an educational institution, classified as a Class 2 misdemeanor.
The investigation remains open and active, with deputies stating that no further information will be released at this time.
