A St. Tammany Parish jury has found Corey Nauck Sr., 32, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his 7-month-old son. The conviction was announced after a four-day trial in Covington, where Nauck faces a mandatory life sentence. Sentencing will take place on April 16, as stated by District Attorney Collin Sims.

The case began when the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office received a report on February 26, 2018, regarding a baby with suspicious head injuries who had been taken to a local hospital. Medical personnel testified that Nauck provided various explanations for the baby's injuries, suggesting that the child may have fallen or been dropped, while he was alone with the infant at home.

Upon further medical examination, it was found that the baby had sustained a skull fracture and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital where he was declared to have no brain activity. Two days later, doctors removed him from life support, with an autopsy concluding that the baby’s death was a homicide.

During the investigation, Nauck admitted to authorities that he "lost it" due to the baby's incessant crying and had slammed the child's head against the ground multiple times. Notably, he failed to contact emergency services despite being aware of his son’s severe injuries.

Nauck's attorney acknowledged his client’s responsibility in the child's death but argued there was no intent to kill. Meanwhile, the prosecutorial team emphasized the need for a first-degree murder conviction, asserting that a life sentence was the only appropriate outcome for Nauck’s actions.
