Man found in Springville with more than $20k worth of bath salts 'likely cut with cocaine'

A man from Springville, Utah, was arrested after police discovered over $20,000 worth of bath salts in his possession, which were likely mixed with cocaine. Boyd Murillo was stopped by an officer for a routine traffic check, during which signs of drug use prompted further investigation.

A narcotics K-9 responded to the scene, indicating the presence of drugs in the vehicle. This led officers to search the car, where they found 62 grams of a substance initially believed to be cocaine. However, upon further examination, it was determined that the substance was actually bath salts cut with cocaine.

The Springville Police Department noted that the market price for bath salts in Utah is currently approximately $300 per gram. This significant valuation means that the seized amount was far beyond what is considered for personal use, categorizing it as a distributable quantity.

Given the circumstances, Murillo was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. This arrest underscores ongoing concerns regarding the trafficking of synthetic drugs in the region.
