An anesthesiologist, Gerhardt Konig, has been indicted on attempted murder charges after allegedly trying to kill his wife during a hike in Hawaii. According to a petition for a temporary restraining order filed by the wife, the incident occurred on Monday while they were visiting Oahu to celebrate her birthday. She described how Konig grabbed her and pushed her toward the edge of a cliff, threatening her with a syringe in the process.

The couple had been facing marital issues, marked by accusations of infidelity that led to jealousy on Konig's part. They were in therapy at the time of the incident. Following the altercation, a judge issued an order that requires Konig to stay away from his wife and their young children, aged 2 and 4. The identity of the wife has not been disclosed as she is a victim of domestic violence.

On the day of the incident, the wife expressed discomfort with the hiking trail's dangerous conditions. Konig, however, insisted on continuing. The situation escalated when he pushed her toward the cliff while yelling that he was tired of her. Initially believing it was a joke, she quickly realized his intent and fought back. During their struggle, Konig attempted to inject her with a syringe filled with an unknown substance, given his medical background as an anesthesiologist.

As the conflict intensified, Konig reportedly grabbed a rock and began striking her, prompting bystanders to intervene by calling 911. The woman was assisted down the trail by two other hikers while Konig fled in another direction. She was transported to a hospital for treatment, and later learned that he had called his adult son, admitting to the attempted murder and indicating a desire to take his own life.

Konig is currently suspended from his position at Maui Health, where he was employed to provide medical services. While Kaiser Permanente clarified that he is not directly employed by them, they have also suspended his medical credentials pending investigation into the incident.
